Katarina Witt first began to skate at the age five years old. Then, her talent began to emerge and she was invited to Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. She was introduced to Jutta Muller in this school. Witt had her first breakthrough season in 1982 when she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. The grace and elegant style of Witt captured the eyes of all and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic victory Katarina (now Witt) took home the women's Figure Skating Gold Medal during Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. In a tighter competition afterward, she took home the medal. Although she lost in the free-skating contest, gold medal was awarded to her efforts on the compulsory figures, as well as on the program in short form. Witt was the first woman to be a repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating following her successes in the film industry as an actor. She took part in the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed fans despite not winning a medal. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
